Description:

The title "Last view on Pluto" summarizes the formal reduction and focus on materials that characterize Pierick's works. The work refers to traditions of minimalist and concrete art, which rely on geometric shapes, pure colors and sensual material effects. The circle as an archetypal motif stands for wholeness and is reminiscent of artists such as Kandinsky and Hilma af Klint.

In addition, the emphasis on materiality and surface structure is reminiscent of positions in color field painting. Artists such as Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman also sought to reduce their works to the essentials in order to give the viewer an immediate sensory experience. The focus is on the effect of color, light and space.

In her work "Last view on Pluto", Pierick takes up these traditions with her own, strongly material-based approach and creates a work of great sensual conciseness.
