Sabine Pierick: · Title: untitled · Dimensions: 150 x 150 cm · Material: gold leaf, mixed media on canvas · Year: 2015 Description: In strict reduction, a large-format composition unfolds before the viewer, the background of which is kept in shimmering gold tones. A single, precisely placed black diagonal cuts through the atmospheric surface and creates a striking counterpoint to the meditative mood of the work. In this work, Pierick develops a remarkable material presence through the multi-layered treatment of the picture surface. The picture ground appears like an alchemical transformation - oxidized metal or aged gold - and opens up a space of contemplative depth to the viewer. The different layers and textures create a complex play of light and shadow that constantly changes depending on the viewpoint and lighting. The minimalist imagery is in the tradition of abstract art, but breaks away from its formal rigor through the pronounced materiality of the surface. The tension between the geometric clarity of the line and the almost organic-looking materiality of the ground manifests a characteristic aspect of Pierick's artistic work: the synthesis of order and chance, of control and material dynamics. The large-format work unfolds a contemplative power that involves the viewer in a dialogue between closeness and distance, between detail and overall effect. By reducing the work to a few, precisely placed design elements, the artist achieves a remarkable intensity of the image effect, which only becomes fully apparent after a longer period of observation. Sabine Pierick: New Horizon · Title: Last view on Pluto · Dimensions: 150 x 150 cm · Material: various granulated coal, petrol, luminescent · Year: 2024 Description: The title "Last view on Pluto" summarizes the formal reduction and focus on materials that characterize Pierick's works. The work refers to traditions of minimalist and concrete art, which rely on geometric shapes, pure colors and sensual material effects. The circle as an archetypal motif stands for wholeness and is reminiscent of artists such as Kandinsky and Hilma af Klint. In addition, the emphasis on materiality and surface structure is reminiscent of positions in color field painting. Artists such as Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman also sought to reduce their works to the essentials in order to give the viewer an immediate sensory experience. The focus is on the effect of color, light and space. In her work "Last view on Pluto", Pierick takes up these traditions with her own, strongly material-based approach and creates a work of great sensual conciseness. Back

Sabine Pierick: 117 · Title: No - Junction · Dimensions: 150 x 120 cm · Material: Real copper on various granulated coal · Year: 2017 Description: In the context of contemporary material art, the work is positioned at an interesting interface: it combines the rigor of geometric abstraction with the sensual quality of the material. The use of copper, one of the oldest metals used by humans, creates a historical dimension of depth that is transported into the present through the modern formal language. Pierick's work can be read as a reflection on systems of order and their limits. The intersecting lines create fields and structures that, however, never appear completely closed or static. Rather, the interplay of material, light and lines creates a lively image structure that oscillates between control and chance, between industrial precision and material idiosyncrasy. This work is exemplary of a contemporary art practice that combines traditional geometric abstraction with material-related conceptual art, thereby opening up new aesthetic and content-related perspectives. My Inspirations Works with unusual materials that address current topics are always exciting discoveries that can be experienced in her artistic works. For years, the artist has been concerned with the exploitation of resources over time. Sabine Pierick's early engagement with existentialism led to a special view of the species and the world. “Art is a step from the visible known to the hidden unknown.” (K.Gibran) The deeper meaning of her work comes from the material: rationed coal, real copper and the colour petrol. She uses only these materials to create her large-scale works, which unfold their magic in the interplay of visual fascination and depth of content. Beauty is the consolation, the deeper thought contains fear but also hope. Sabine Pierick basically follows her natural instinct to want to coax the earth's inherent beauty out of her, always anew, full of energy, like an innate, insatiable desire for a sensual, creative appropriation of our world. She digs deep into the segment, crushes it with her own hands, patinates it, lets nature change and then catapults the earth's treasures into her own Pierick universe. Carbon C / atomic number 6. BIO The works of Sabine Pierick as an informal form of expression of contemporary art, thinking differently about the meaning of material and playing with the feelings of the viewer. Unique, individual works are created from serial work processes and structures. Sabine Pierick makes use of the slight changes that occur when original inaccuracies are further reinforced. These forms create a sculptural design and ultimately a large, organic composition. The result is a game with the material, its repetition and the resulting effect. The individual elements made of coal, copper and petroleum appear identical individually and appear rigid as a material, but gain an impressive lightness and liveliness through the modular design, the openwork structures and the incident light. The play with variations and modifications expands the works into the space and beyond its characteristic material boundaries. The works play with the viewer's expectations of a painted picture. When looking closely at the works, the inconsistent casting of light and shadow is irritating. The light seems to come from several directions. In addition, the intensity and color of the works change depending on which point in the room you look at them from. When you move, subtle changes occur, giving the works a very special liveliness. A central element in Pierick's art is playing with the viewer's expectations. At first glance, the works look like painted pictures, but upon closer inspection, the inconsistent cast of light and shadow is irritating. The light seems to come from several directions and the intensity and color of the works change depending on the viewing angle. This subtle dynamic gives the works a unique liveliness and creates a special interaction between the work of art and the viewer. The dynamic changes in space create a fascinating, lively experience that goes far beyond the classic perception of art. Through her unique choice of materials, Pierick reflects on the transformation of materials and their influence on the perception of space and time. Her works of art invite the viewer to take a new look at the complexity of industrial production and natural resources and encourage them to engage with ecological issues. Sabine Pierick: SEASONAL HAPPINESS · Title: Spring · Dimensions: 150 x 150 cm · Material: Real copper disc on various granulated hard coal · Year: 2023 Sabine Pierick: SEASONAL HAPPINESS · Title: Spring · Dimensions: 150 x 150 cm · Material: Real copper disc on various granulated hard coal · Year: 2023 Description: Four copper circles, one meter in diameter, as a quadriga of seasonal happiness, reminiscent of mythological earth disks, have gone through the entire cycle of nature in meadows and fields for 12 months, corresponding to the four seasonal quarters. Almost burnt up in the heat of summer, corroded by the patter of rain, clearly dented by wind and weather, magically encrusted with crystalline snow flurries, hurled into the ground like shields by the storm, all of them smilingly illuminated by the sun, moon and stars. As lovingly "exposed" to the forces of nature, Pierick's seasonal disks had time each season to capture the earth's wealth in the act of the encounter of time, space and matter on each individual copper plate as a multifaceted spectrum and to reflect it to us as an archaic treasure. Sabine Pierick's "Seasonal Happiness" presents itself as a multi-layered, process-oriented art project that transcends the traditional boundaries between artistic intention, natural processes and temporal dimension. The work, which manifests itself as part of a larger series of four copper discs, each embodying a season, reveals a conceptual depth that goes beyond purely visual aesthetics. Back
